Human Rights Day 2005
Candlelit Vigil

This year, the 10th of December, traditionally Human Rights Day, fell
on a Saturday. The weather was unusually mild for the time of year
too, so with the busy Christmas-shopping season in full swing,
there were huge crowds in the town centre.
We set-up our stand about 3pm, and interest was immediate, and a brisk
series of signatures for the petition followed. This year we
decided to try offering balloons to the children, with a "Free Tibet"
message and TSGG insignia. These were popular.
The focus of this year's event was the case-studies of Tibetans wrongly
imprisoned by the Communist regime, as featured on our "stop the
torture" pages.
We also provided some pre-written letters to our more-interested
visitors, these were to ask their local MP to sign the two EDMs
currently tabled which relate to religious persecution in China.
(EDM 966 and 999)
In all, one of our most-visited 10th December stands, and well worth
the effort involved in setting it up. Thanks to all who helped.
